Android XR glasses are finally getting a release date, and it’s later than you’d think

We’ve known for a while that Google’s Android XR glasses were on the way, but we haven’t had a firm launch date. That has now changed. One of Google’s two design partners has confirmed when its first pair will actually arrive.

Earlier this week, Warby Parker announced that pre-orders for its first Android XR glasses will open on November 12. It also confirmed that these devices will be sold under the “Intelligent Eyewear” branding that Google and Samsung are using. Now, Gentle Monster has shared its own timeline.

In a post on X, Gentle Monster teased a short film directed by Jonathan Glazer and starring Joaquin Phoenix. The company describes it as a cinematic journey between reality and dream. The full film will be released in mid-November, which almost certainly means November 12, to line up with Warby Parker’s pre-order date.

However, the film isn’t the important part here. The post also says that Gentle Monster’s first Intelligent Eyewear collection launches this December. The release window had been rumored before, but this is the first time one of the partners has confirmed it. It also means the first Android XR glasses will reach buyers late in the year, though that’s better than not launching at all.

Warby Parker hasn’t confirmed a December release for its glasses yet. Since both companies are working with Google on the same platform and are making announcements within days of each other, it seems likely that its glasses will land in the same window. Neither company has shared pricing so far, so we’ll have to wait and see what these glasses cost.
