WWDC 2025: Apple to Bring Preview App on iPhone and iPad

Even though reports have suggested that AI related announcements will be missing in action, and are not among the WWDC 2025 expectations, it seems Apple still has quite a bit to pique the interests of users and media-people (such as yours truly).

As per a new report from Mark Gurman (link), Apple is going to bring the Preview app to iOS 26 and iPadOS 26. There aren’t a lot of details about what need the new app will fill on the iPhone and iPad. However, on Mac, the Preview app is pretty much the Swiss knife of viewing files, be it PDFs, or images.

Preview on Mac even features some basic editing tools, including background removal, OCR features, basic cropping, etc. It remains to be seen whether these features will make their way to the iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 version of the app as well.

As per Gurman, “The software looks similar to the Mac version, and its launch screen is in the same style as apps like Pages and Keynote. It includes a big logo on the top portion of the screen advertising the Preview name and a gallery of document options below it.”

Maybe the Preview app is going to be a one-stop solution for viewing, and filling out PDF files on iPhone and iPad. So far, viewing PDFs on iPhone is pretty much limited to launching the Files app and opening the PDF from there. A new Preview app for iOS 26 might make the entire process easier. However, that is purely speculation at this point.

We will have to wait and watch the WWDC 2025 keynote to get all the details.
