Nothing’s first flagship smartphone, the Nothing Phone 3, is all set to launch on July 1, the company has confirmed. The phone, which Nothing founder Carl Pei had earlier said would be priced around £800, was earlier expected by me to feature top-of-the-line specs including a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, considering the price point of the phone.
However, Nothing has today also confirmed the chipset it is using for the Nothing Phone 3. The company has revealed that its first “true flagship” will come with the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset.
The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, though a capable chipset, is not something one would expect to find in a flagship phone priced around £800 (upwards of $1000). Nothing co-founder Akis Evangelidis offered some clarification regarding the company’s decision to go with the 8s Gen 4 instead of the 8 Elite. He also mentioned that the camera performance of the phone will benefit from the Spectra ISP of the 8s Gen 4. We have already reported that the Phone 3 will come with better cameras, so the camera performance is something that I am interested to check out.
It remains to be seen what the India pricing for the Nothing Phone 3 will be like. India’s smartphone market is highly price sensitive, and the correct pricing strategy can make or break the Nothing Phone 3’s success in India.
