Mojang Studios has officially announced Minecraft Dungeons II, the sequel to the 2020 co-op dungeon crawler that went on to attract 25 million players over its first three years. On Saturday night, March 22, Mojang Studios confirmed that Minecraft Dungeons 2 will be released later this year for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, PC and Xbox Game Pass. “The next chapter of Minecraft Dungeons begins in the fall of 2026,” read the press release.
The game was revealed during Minecraft Live 2026, Mojang’s annual showcase. It is co-developed by Mojang and Double Eleven, the studio that partnered with Mojang on the original Minecraft Dungeons and all of its DLC.
What Minecraft Dungeons II Is
Minecraft Dungeons II is an action RPG in the tradition of Diablo: a top-down dungeon crawler with co-op for up to four players, built inside the visual language of the Minecraft universe. The original was praised for making the genre approachable without stripping away the fun of loot collection, build variety, and escalating difficulty.
The announcement trailer focused on atmosphere rather than raw gameplay. It showed a troubled village, underground environments, and a portal in an Ancient City flickering to life. That Ancient City portal has been a mystery in the base Minecraft game for years, and its inclusion in the trailer has sparked community discussion about potential story connections.
The Steam page describes the premise as follows: a new threat is growing in power and players must return as heroes to stop it. A new danger is growing in power, ready to descend upon the land and unleash mayhem. Return to the world of Minecraft Dungeons in an all-new action RPG adventure, brimming with high-stakes encounters, thrilling challenges, and never-before-seen locations, as you set out to save a world in crisis.

Platforms and Xbox Game Pass
Minecraft Dungeons II is coming to Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, PC via Steam and Microsoft Store, and Xbox Game Pass.
Minecraft Dungeons 2 will launch day-one onto Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass in 2026, delivering more co-op adventures for up to four players. For Game Pass subscribers, this means zero additional cost to play at launch. Xbox Play Anywhere support is also confirmed, meaning a single purchase covers both the Xbox and Windows versions.
The game is available to wishlist on Steam right now.
Release Date
No exact date has been announced yet. Based on how Mojang typically schedules its game launches around seasonal Minecraft content drops, the release could fall anywhere between September and November 2026.
What Else Was Announced at Minecraft Live
The Dungeons II reveal was not the only announcement from Minecraft Live. Mojang also revealed the next major Minecraft content update called Chaos Cubed, confirmed a Minecraft World theme park attraction coming to London, and announced that a sequel to the 2025 Minecraft Movie, this time featuring Kirsten Dunst as Alex, is planned for 2027.
Why This Matters
The original Minecraft Dungeons launched in May 2020 and received a 70 on Metacritic, but found its real audience over time, ultimately reaching 25 million players before Mojang moved on to new projects. A sequel arriving in fall 2026 on every major platform and on Game Pass Day One means it has the potential to reach an even larger audience in its launch window, particularly with the Nintendo Switch 2 installed base continuing to grow.
For anyone who played and enjoyed the original, or who has children who did, Minecraft Dungeons II is one of the safer bets on the fall 2026 gaming calendar.
