It seems Meta is suddenly on a mission to get its apps working on the iPad. After launching the WhatsApp iPad app recently, it seems the company is working on an Instagram app for the iPad as well.
The report comes from The Information (link) which mentioned back in April that Meta is working on a native iPad app for Instagram. This report has now been corroborated by Mark Gurman in his latest newsletter (link). As per Gurman, the Instagram for iPad app is being actively tested by Meta employees. He also added that the app should be released by the end of the year.
Up until now, Meta has only offered a Facebook app for the iPad, and more recently a new WhatsApp app for the tablet. With Instagram on iPad, the company will finally be offering all of its most popular consumer offerings on one of the most popular consumer tablets out there.
Toasty Take
If you’ve ever used Instagram on iPad you’ll know how horrible the experience can be. The app runs in a smartphone aspect ratio, which leaves you with massive black bars on the sides, and makes the app look ugly on a screen so big.
Fortunately, with an official, native iPad app, Instagram should be more fun on the larger screen. Hopefully there won’t be any delays or setbacks in launching Insta for iPad, and we’ll get our hands on the new app sooner rather than later.
That said, I don’t find myself really missing the Instagram app on iPad. I am fully content to use IG on my iPhone and use the iPad for watching Netflix. However, the idea of a native IG app for iPad is definitely still enticing.
What do you think about a native IG app on iPad? Have you been waiting for it as many others have? Or have you never really felt the need to use Insta on your iPad? Let us know in the comments.
