Galaxy S26 Might Use Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, Not Exynos 2600

When Samsung teased the upcoming Exynos 2600 in a YouTube video, it seemed obvious that the upcoming flagship chipset will be found under the hood of Samsung’s 2026 flagship smartphones — the S26 series.

However, a new report is now claiming that Samsung will use the Exynos 2600 only in South Korea, and S26 series phones will use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset in global markets.

If you’re wondering why this is expected to be the case, the report claims that there are primarily three reasons. Apparently, Samsung is not getting a very high yield from its new 2nm GAA process that the Exynos 2600 is being produced on. Obviously, this would mean that the production of Exynos 2600 chipsets is throttled, and Samsung might need to rely on Qualcomm.

Furthermore, Samsung had reportedly signed a contract with Qualcomm stipulating that at least 75% of Galaxy S series shipments should be of phones with the Snapdragon processor.

Last but not the least, Exynos has had a poor track record when compared against Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chipsets, and even with the improvements that Samsung has made, consumers have the image of Snapdragon chipsets being the more reliable choice.

Naturally, if Samsung were to launch the S26 series with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset in India and other regions, there is a chance that consumers will appreciate it over getting the Exynos 2600 chipset. However, Samsung’s issues with the Exynos name and the lack of consumer trust in the chipset are something that the South Korean giant needs to figure out and resolve soon.
