Fortnite Arenas Mode Is Coming on April 9: Here Is Everything You Need to Know

Epic Games is launching a brand-new mode in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2 this Thursday. It is called Arenas, and it brings competitive, build-only gameplay back to the game with a fresh format. Here is everything you need to know before it goes live.

What Is Arenas Mode?

Arenas is a ranked, build-only mode in Fortnite. It is designed for players who want a more competitive experience. Unlike the current standard Battle Royale, building is enabled throughout the entire match.

The mode launches on April 9, so you have just a few days to prepare. Epic has been teasing it since the start of Chapter 7 Season 2, with a countdown visible in the game’s main menu.

What Game Formats Are Available?

Arenas will offer two competitive formats at launch:

  • 1v1 Boxfight — You challenge a single opponent in a close-quarters building duel. This is a classic competitive format that tests pure mechanical skill.
  • 16-Player Round Robin — You can compete as a solo or duo in a structured round-robin tournament format. This gives everyone a set number of matches and ranks players based on performance.

Both formats take place in a dedicated close-quarters combat map. Epic designed the space specifically for Arenas, so do not expect the standard Battle Royale island.

Why Does This Matter?

Arenas is a big deal for the competitive Fortnite scene. Build-only ranked modes have been absent from Fortnite for a long time. Many competitive players moved to third-party tournaments or just played Ranked Battle Royale, which does not feature full building.

This also coincides with the return of the FNCS (Fortnite Champion Series). Epic has confirmed more frequent FNCS events this season, and Arenas will serve as a training ground for tournament-level players.

How to Prepare for Arenas

If you want to hit the ground running on April 9, here are a few things you can do right now:

  • Practice your building — Arenas is build-only. If you have been playing zero-build, spend some time in Team Rumble or creative maps getting your edits sharp.
  • Get familiar with the current loot pool — The Chapter 7 Season 2 loot pool is almost entirely different from Season 1. Make sure you know which weapons work best in close-range build fights.
  • Complete weekly challenges — You can earn free cosmetics by completing current challenges. Check out our full guide to all Fortnite Endgame challenges and rewards for April 2026.
