These guidelines govern how we create, review, and publish content at 8BitToast. They apply to every writer, editor, and contributor on our team. We publish them openly so our readers understand exactly what standards our content is held to.
1. Who We Are
8BitToast is a tech publication based in New Delhi, India, covering consumer technology news, product guides, how-tos, and reviews. Our team consists of writers and editors with backgrounds in technology journalism, software, and consumer electronics. Every bylined article is written by a named author — we do not publish anonymous content.
We are independently operated. We are not owned by a hardware manufacturer, software company, or retailer, and no outside party has editorial control over our content.
2. Content Types We Publish
News
Breaking and developing stories about the technology industry. News articles are based on primary sources — official press releases, regulatory filings, credible first-hand reports — and are clearly labelled when based on leaks or unconfirmed information. We do not publish rumours as confirmed facts.
Guides & How-Tos
Step-by-step instructions written to be accurate for the software version or device model specified. Guides are reviewed and updated when major software updates affect the steps described. The date of last verification is noted where relevant.
Reviews
Product reviews reflect the genuine, independent assessment of the reviewer based on hands-on use. We specify how long the product was tested, under what conditions, and whether the unit was provided by a manufacturer (see Disclosure Policy below).
Roundups & Best-Of Lists
Roundup articles (e.g., “Best Camera Phones”) are based on a combination of our own hands-on testing and analysis of credible third-party benchmarks and expert reviews. Sources are cited within the article. We clearly state which devices we have personally tested and which we have evaluated based on external data.
Opinion & Analysis
Opinion pieces are clearly labelled as such. They represent the view of the named author, not the editorial position of 8BitToast as a publication.
3. Research & Accuracy Standards
- All factual claims must be supported by at least one primary or credible secondary source.
- Benchmark scores, pricing, and hardware specifications are verified against official manufacturer pages or widely respected benchmarking organisations (e.g., DXOMark, Geekbench) at the time of publication.
- When a claim cannot be independently verified, we say so explicitly rather than present it as confirmed.
- We do not republish press releases verbatim. All news coverage includes context, analysis, or additional reporting beyond the source document.
- Statistics and data points are accompanied by the source and, where relevant, the date the data was collected.
4. Corrections Policy
We correct factual errors promptly and transparently. When a significant correction is made to a published article:
- A correction notice is appended to the article stating what was changed and when.
- Minor corrections (e.g., typos, formatting) are fixed silently.
- We do not delete corrections or scrub error history to protect our reputation.

5. Independence & Conflicts of Interest
Editorial decisions — what to cover, how to cover it, and what conclusions to reach — are made entirely by our editorial team. The following rules apply to all contributors:
- No writer may review a product in which they have a financial interest.
- Advertisers and affiliate partners have no influence over editorial content, headlines, scores, or recommendations.
- We do not accept payment in exchange for positive coverage or reviews.
- Writers must disclose any personal or professional relationship with a company or product they are covering.
6. Affiliate & Commercial Disclosure
Some articles on 8BitToast contain affiliate links, primarily to Amazon and other retailers. This means we may earn a small commission if you purchase a product through a link on our site, at no additional cost to you.
Our affiliate relationships do not influence which products we recommend or how we score them. A product we earn commission on is not ranked higher because of that relationship. We include affiliate links to products we would recommend regardless.
All articles containing affiliate links carry a disclosure notice at the top of the article.
7. Use of AI Tools
Like many modern publications, some writers on our team use AI writing tools as part of their research and drafting process. Our policy on this is as follows:
- All published content is reviewed, edited, and fact-checked by a human editor before publication.
- AI tools are not used to generate product scores, test results, or factual claims — these come from real-world testing and verified sources.
- AI-assisted content that has not been substantially rewritten and verified by a human editor is not published.
- We do not use AI to fabricate quotes, invent sources, or generate false data.
8. Review Process
All articles go through the following process before publication:
- Research & drafting — The assigned writer researches the topic using primary and secondary sources.
- Fact-checking — Key claims, specifications, and prices are verified against source material.
- Editorial review — An editor reviews the draft for accuracy, clarity, and compliance with these guidelines.
- Final publish — The article is published with the correct author attribution, category, and disclosure labels.
9. Sourcing & Attribution
- All sourced claims link to or credit the original source.
- We do not reproduce copyrighted content from other publications. We report on and link to their findings.
- Images used are either original, licensed, or sourced from official press kits. Image credits are included where required.
- Leaked information is clearly labelled as unverified and attributed to its original source.
10. Content We Do Not Publish
- Sponsored content disguised as editorial content
- Unverified rumours presented as confirmed news
- Content that promotes illegal activity
- Misleading headlines that misrepresent the content of the article
- Content written with the primary intent of gaming search rankings rather than serving the reader
