Apple Might be Working on Sleep Score Feature for Apple Watch

Apple looks to be adding a sleep score feature to the Apple Watch, based on hidden code found in iOS 26 by MacRumors contributor Steve Moser (link). The find includes an image in the Health app showing an Apple Watch displaying a score of “84,” surrounded by color-coded bars. These bars match the shades used for different sleep stages: orange for awake periods, light blue for REM, and darker blue for Core or Deep sleep.

Surrounding the watch in the graphic are familiar sleep-related icons: a moon and stars, “zzz,” a bed, and an alarm clock, plus a thermometer symbol. The latter suggests that temperature may factor into the score, hinting at a more comprehensive calculation than simple time tracked. Apple has used similar temperature data in its Vitals feature in watchOS 11, so this would follow that trend.

Interestingly, the image file is named “Watch Focus Score,” which suggests this metric could relate specifically to Sleep Focus mode. It may not just measure how long you slept but also predict your readiness or alertness the next day based on sleep quality.

Sleep scoring isn’t new in wearables and Garmin, Fitbit, Oura, and even Samsung offer similar features. Apple adding it now would fill a gap in its health tracking suite. Right now, the Watch tracks sleep stages and awake time but doesn’t assign an overall score.

We don’t know when this might launch. It could appear in watchOS 26 or later. For users who rely on sleep metrics, a built‑in sleep score could finally make the Watch a more compelling nightly companion.
