“Out with the old, in with the old” – Google, probably
Google finally sent out invites for the Made By Google 2025 event, and now that we know we’re only a few weeks out from the August 20 launch of the Pixel 10 series, the Pixel Watch 4, and a new pair of Pixel Buds, it seems the leak-train has started chugging along.
After multiple leaks about the Pixel 10, including an entire Pixel 10 ad that leaked, we now have leaks about the upcoming Pixel Watch 4, and they’re a mixed bag.
For one, the leaks suggest that Google is sticking with the Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 processor in the Pixel Watch 4 for the third year in a row. It’s unclear exactly why Google has fallen in love with the W5, but it is what it is. A new report from Android Headlines (link), on the other hand, mentions that the company is opting for a “new” co-processor with the Watch 4.
This “new” co-processor is the M55, released in 2020, which makes it 5 years old at launch. But it replaces the M33 co-processor in the previous-gen Pixel Watch, and that co-processor had launched back in 2016. In technology timelines, that’s nearly prehistoric.
Apart from the W1 and M55 processors, the Pixel Watch 4 is likely to offer the same 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage as before. Plus, we expect to get the same AMOLED LTPO display, albeit with a higher 3000 nits of brightness as compared to the 2000 nits peak brightness numbers of the Pixel Watch 3.
It’s also expected that the new Pixel Watch 4 will offer improved battery life. The 41mm Watch 4 is expected to have a 30 hour battery life (with AOD) from its 325mAh unit while the 45mm Watch 4 is expected to offer 40 hours of battery life with AOD turned on, from its 455mAh battery. Both watches are also claimed to offer 48 hours and 72 hours of battery life in Battery Saver modes, respectively.
