Vivo X Fold 5 Launches in China with Apple Watch Support

“Too long, has the Apple Watch been an iPhone exclusive. That changes today.” – Vivo, probably

Vivo has launched its latest foldable, the Vivo X Fold 5, in China and even though the phone has a lot of exciting features and many impressive design feats, what really stole the show for me is that it comes with Apple Watch support.

Vivo X Fold 5 Specs

The X Fold 5 has a weird mixture of specifications. Vivo has opted for last year’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for the X Fold 5. It’s paired with 16GB RAM, Android 15, and an 8.03-inch display when unfolded. Plus, there’s a 6000mAh battery, a 50MP triple rear camera setup, and two 20MP shooters, one on each display.

It’s also not too hefty at 217 grams, and it’s one of the thinnest foldables out there, measuring just about 9.7mm when it’s folded.

The Vivo X Fold 5 is also water resistant with IPX8 and IPX9 ratings, and you also get IP5X dust resistance rating.

Vivo X Fold 5 Apple Watch Support

The most intriguing thing about the phone, however, is the Apple Watch support. On its Weibo post, the company said “Android phones are connected to Apple Watch for the first time, and can answer calls, view messages, and even synchronize health data to the vivo health app.”

It’s unclear exactly how Vivo is getting the Apple Watch to answer calls, view messages, and sync health data with an Android device. However, as per 9to5Google (link), this might be happening with some sort of a passthrough connection with an iPhone.

Vivo X Fold 5 Price

The Vivo X Fold 5 is available in China only right now, for a starting price of CNY 6999 all the way up to CNY 9499 for the 16GB+1TB variant of the phone. The company hasn’t announced any details regarding a global or Indian availability yet.
