It seems that among the many new features in iOS 19, Apple is also considering adding something for those of us looking to switch to Android. According to a report from Android Authority (link), Apple might be working on allowing an eSIM to be transferred wirelessly from an iPhone to an Android device.
The information comes thanks to a teardown of the Android 16 beta where the website found strings mentioning a new “Transfer to Android” feature within the Google SIM Manager. Further, the code in the Google SIM manager hints that the feature will come with iOS 19.
Code discovered within the Google SIM Manager by Android Authority includes strings such as:
“Still can’t connect wirelessly?”
“Make sure your other device is running iOS 19 or later versions.”
That line seems to directly imply that iOS 19 will be the first iOS version to support this feature. As of right now, transferring eSIM between iPhones is a straightforward process; however, if you’re switching from an iPhone to Android, the eSIM transfer process can be much more annoying and time consuming.
If the feature is indeed coming with iOS 19, many people are expecting an announcement at WWDC 2025. However, it seems unlikely that Apple will formally announce such a thing as this. The company isn’t really one to highlight ways of making it easier to switch away from its products, and this eSIM transfer feature is definitely making it a lot easier to do the same.
Still, we will have to wait for the WWDC 2025 keynote to see whether Apple does announce this change. If you’re interested, you can watch WWDC 2025 live very easily.
Toasty Take
If you’ve ever tried switching between an iPhone and an Android, you are probably aware of how difficult some things can be in the process. It used to be WhatsApp chats, but nowadays eSIMs are harder to move.
Fortunately, judging by today’s news, this problem might soon go away as well. And I am all for the ability to switch devices, carriers, and ecosystems as easily as possible without unnecessary hurdles for the consumer. It’s a win, basically.
