WhatsApp is working on a much better CarPlay experience. The app is currently in beta testing with a revamped CarPlay interface, moving well beyond the basic Siri-assisted messaging that has been the norm until now.
This comes just days after several other major apps joined CarPlay. Google Meet, ChatGPT, and Audiomack all arrived on CarPlay this week.
What Is Changing for WhatsApp on CarPlay?
Right now, WhatsApp on CarPlay is fairly limited. It relies mainly on Siri to read and send messages. There is no full interface to browse your conversations or control the experience directly.
The new version being tested changes that. Details are limited, but the beta testing indicates a more complete in-car interface is coming — one that gives drivers more direct access to their WhatsApp conversations without having to rely solely on voice commands.
This would bring WhatsApp more in line with how messaging apps should work in a CarPlay environment.
CarPlay Is Getting a Lot of Attention Right Now
WhatsApp is not alone in refreshing its CarPlay presence. If you have not already seen it, Google Meet landed on CarPlay earlier this week. You can read our full breakdown of that launch here: Google Meet Is Now on Apple CarPlay: Here Is What You Need to Know.
And if you want step-by-step instructions for setting it up, we also have a full guide: Google Meet Is on Apple CarPlay: Here Is How to Set It Up and Use It.
The flurry of activity around CarPlay suggests that developers are increasingly treating it as a priority platform, not an afterthought.
When Will the New WhatsApp CarPlay App Be Available?
There is no confirmed release date yet. Beta testing means the feature is still being worked on. It could arrive in a future WhatsApp update over the coming weeks or months.
For now, the existing Siri-based WhatsApp CarPlay integration remains in place. Keep an eye on WhatsApp update notes in the App Store for any announcements.
