What Was “Connections” in Roblox?
Earlier in 2026, Roblox renamed its “Friends” feature to “Connections” as part of a broader push to rethink how social relationships work on the platform. The idea was to distinguish between different types of social ties — people you actively play with versus people you have simply added on the platform.
Roblox also expanded what it called “Trusted Friends” around the same time, giving players more control over who can chat with them and join their sessions directly.
The problem was the name. “Connections” felt cold and corporate to many players. Roblox’s audience skews young, and “Friends” is a word that resonates far more naturally in that context. The community pushed back, and Roblox listened.
What Is Changing on April 7?
The revert is simple: the feature is being renamed back to “Friends.” Nothing about how the system works is changing. You will not lose any of your existing connections or see your list shuffled around. It is purely a name change.
However, the Trusted Friends expansion that came with the original April 2 update is staying in place. That means you still have more granular controls over who can interact with you — you just get to call them your Friends again.
Why Does This Matter?
This is a good example of Roblox responding to player feedback quickly. The community made it clear that the “Connections” rebrand felt off. Roblox announced the rollback within days, with the change going live tomorrow.
For parents and younger players especially, the language used by platforms matters. “Add as a Connection” creates an entirely different tone than “Add as a Friend,” and for a platform where the core experience is playing games with other people you know, friendly language is part of the product.
