Google’s annual developer conference is just around the corner, and there’s likely going to be a lot of exciting stuff to check out. If you’re just as excited about it as I am, here are my Google I/O 2025 expectations.
Android 16
Even though Google has scheduled a dedicated The Android Show event for Android 16, I do expect the company to talk about Android 16 during the I/O keynote as well. After all, a lot of the developer-oriented features about Android 16 are being covered in I/O sessions.

Among the expected features in Android 16 are major changes to the Android UI, thanks to the new Material 3 Expressive design language. We’ll likely see completely redesigned status bar icons, volume sliders, checkboxes, and more. Android 16 will also bring Google’s version of Live Notifications, a new quick settings pane, changes to notifications on less frequently accessed devices, and a lot more.
Gemini Updates and AI
AI is obviously the big thing in the tech industry right now, and Google has long been investing in AI development. Naturally, I/O is the perfect stage for talking about Gemini and AI related updates.
There have been some leaks suggesting that a new Gemini Ultra model might be in the offing at the I/O keynote. This new Ultra model will be priced above the current Gemini Advanced tier, making it Google’s most expensive and powerful AI offering to consumers.

Gemini has already been integrated into most Google products, and is now helping consumers every day from things like writing emails to creating tables in Sheets. Google might talk about how it’s planning on making Gemini more powerful (or better integrated) in the coming year.
Apart from Gemini, too, Google has a lot to talk about in AI. For one, Google will undoubtedly discuss Astra — remember that? Plus, the company will likely also talk about Project Mariner, which is its AI based “agents” that will be able to browse the web and take actions on the user’s behalf.
Other Google I/O Expectations
The biggest topics of discussion at I/O 2025 will definitely be Android 16 and all the AI upgrades, experiments, and more. Hopefully, we’ll get to see some more concrete information about Project Astra and those AR glasses.
However, that’s not all. I/O is, at the end of the day, a developer conference, and there will be tons of developer-oriented content as well. Plus, there are sessions for Chrome related updates, alongside Google Play, Google Cloud, the Android development tools, and more.
There could also be some surprises, especially AI-themed ones, and hopefully Google has some cool stuff to show off apart from Android 16 and Gemini.
Well, those are primarily the things we’re expecting to see at the Google I/O keynote. What do you think Google will talk about? Let us know in the comments!
