MacBook Neo Has a Day-One Software Update: Here Is What to Do First

If you just unboxed a brand-new MacBook Neo, the first thing you need to do is install a software update. Apple released macOS Tahoe 26.3.2 on March 10 — before the laptop even hit shelves — and it is exclusive to the MacBook Neo. No other Mac gets this update.

What Is macOS 26.3.2?

According to Apple’s official release notes, macOS Tahoe 26.3.2 includes bug fixes and security updates specific to the MacBook Neo. Apple does not always detail exactly what issues are being patched, but releasing a dedicated update before a product ships means the company identified hardware-specific problems during final testing that needed to be corrected out of the box.

The build number is 25D2140, and the update is only available as an over-the-air download on MacBook Neo hardware. It cannot be installed on any other Mac, including the newly released MacBook Air M5 or MacBook Pro M5 Pro and M5 Max.

How to Install macOS 26.3.2 on Your MacBook Neo

During the initial setup process, your MacBook Neo should automatically prompt you to install the update. If you skipped that step or are already past setup, here is how to get it manually:

  1. Click the Apple menu in the top-left corner
  2. Go to System Settings
  3. Click General, then Software Update
  4. Download and install macOS Tahoe 26.3.2

The update is small and should install quickly. Apple will likely require this update to be installed before the MacBook Neo can be fully configured, so most users will not be able to skip it.

What Is Coming Next for MacBook Neo

The update also signals what is coming in the next macOS release. Internal builds of macOS Tahoe 26.4 — currently in developer beta — are already compatible with the MacBook Neo, meaning the laptop will receive the full spring update alongside every other supported Mac when it rolls out in late March.

macOS 26.4 will bring the MacBook Neo’s fun new Citrus, Blush, and Indigo wallpapers to every Mac, along with new emoji, Apple Music’s Playlist Playground AI feature, upgraded Podcasts video support, and more.

For now, though — before you open anything else, before you sign into iCloud, before you download a single app — install macOS 26.3.2. It takes less than five minutes and gives your new MacBook Neo the best possible foundation from day one.
