Google Maps on Android is getting a fresh look with M3 Expressive tweaks designed to make navigation more intuitive and visually pleasing. Some of the updates landed with the latest beta version (25.37.x) and they are already changing how place pages appear.
First off, the row of buttons like Directions, Start, Ask (Gemini), Call, Save, and Share is now always fixed at the bottom of the screen on the Overview tab. Before this change those buttons were at the top and scrolled away. Having them anchored gives quicker access, especially when using one hand.
The tabs that show Overview, Reviews, Photos, Updates, About and so on moved too. Now they sit above the image previews rather than mixed into the page. That rearrangement clears up visual clutter. Underneath the place name the distance, ratings and other key info get subtler tweaks so they align more cleanly.

Another part of the redesign involves how descriptive fields display. The address, phone number, website links and description now live in Material 3 Expressive containers. The faint line separators are gone. These fields are surrounded by containers with pill-style buttons for actions. This shift helps modernize the page and gives it a more polished design.
Some features are still missing though. Dynamic Color has not been added yet. The fullscreen account menu and a shorter bottom navigation bar already assist in cleaner interaction but the color theming remains static for now.
These changes may seem small but they add up. Persistent action buttons, cleaner tab placement, containerized info fields and pill-style buttons contribute to a modern feel. If you use Google Maps frequently, these updates aim to streamline common tasks, reduce scrolling and make place pages faster to scan. Once the stable release comes these touches should help everyday navigation feel smoother and more refined.
