Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 Glasses Launch at $379

Meta’s Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 smart glasses are getting some solid upgrades that address two things many users have complained about: battery life and video quality. The first model offered about four hours on a charge. The Gen 2 version now promises up to eight hours of usage on a full charge.

The charging case has been improved too. It can regain 50 percent battery in 20 minutes. Its overall battery backup has been boosted to 48 hours in the case. That is up from 32 hours in the previous model.

Video recording has better resolution. The glasses can now shoot 3K video for up to three minutes. It also supports 3K at 30 frames per second, 1440p at 30 fps, and 1200p at 60 fps. Videos are still recorded in a vertical orientation.

New audio options are coming as well. There is a feature called conversation focus. It helps by boosting the voice of a person speaking near you through the built-in speakers on the glasses. Other upcoming video features include hyperlapse and slow motion later in the year.

The Gen 2 glasses are already available in multiple frame styles such as Wayfarer, Skyler, and Headliner. They come in different colors. The original Gen 1 model remains on sale for $299.

Also interesting is Meta’s move toward broader hardware partnerships. There is a separate pair of glasses called “Vanguard” in the works. Those come with Oakley’s PRIZM lenses, larger battery, louder speakers, waterproofing, and a wide-angle lens. They will start at $499 and ship starting in October.

Overall the Gen 2 update feels like a meaningful step forward. It is not a radical redesign but it delivers improvements people will notice in everyday use. If you have been waiting for better battery and sharper video in wearable tech this might be the pair you have been looking for.
