Apple Working on Touch Screen Mac: Ming-Chi Kuo

Apple may be prepping its first touch screen Mac, and details now suggest that this feature will arrive with a redesigned OLED MacBook Pro, set to enter production in late 2026. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has reported that the OLED MacBook Pro will include a touch sensitive display panel. This would mark a major shift in how Macs work.

The OLED MacBook Pro is expected to appear after the next generation of Apple silicon arrives. First up is a refresh with M5 processors early next year. After that comes the OLED model, likely powered by M6 chips. That version is said to be two generations ahead of the current M4 MacBook Pro line.

Adding touch to the MacBook changes the user experience. It moves macOS closer to what iPadOS already offers. macOS Tahoe has been adding shared visual features with iPadOS 26, and a touch screen would reinforce that convergence. Many users who are used to iPhones and iPads may find it natural to expect touch input everywhere on Apple devices. It could make dragging, pinching and navigating feel more direct.

Kuo also suggests Apple is thinking longer term. The touch screen may also come to a second generation affordable MacBook that is rumored to use an iPhone A-series chip. That signals that Apple may bring touch screens to its lighter laptop lines in the future. The MacBook Air line might also see a version with touch features, depending on how these changes are received.

At this point these are still rumors. Timing is not confirmed. It is unclear whether the OLED MacBook Pro will truly ship in 2026 or slip into early 2027. But based on current reporting Apple is clearly working toward bringing touch back into its laptop lineup. If this plays out users of high end Macs may get a more interactive display experience.
