Even though I love most of what the Apple Watch offers (like the ECG function), there are certain things that can be really infuriating about it. I, for one, really hate the ‘stand’ and ‘breathe’ reminders that the Apple Watch keeps popping up. Normally, you would assume that you can turn these reminders off from the watch itself, but that’s not true at all. So, if you are in the same boat as I am, and you are wondering how to disable stand (or breathe) notifications, here is how to turn off (or on) stand and breath reminders on Apple Watch.
Turn Off Stand Reminders in Apple Watch
The Apple Watch’s stand reminders are its way of ensuring that you don’t lead an overly sedentary lifestyle. The watch tries to get you to stand for a minute every hour at least 12 times in a day. This is great to ensure that you don’t keep sitting all the time, but it’s also very annoying. So here is how to turn it off:
Open the Watch app on your iPhone. Scroll down, and tap on ‘Activity‘. Here, just disable the toggle next to ‘Stand Reminders’ as shown in the screenshot below.
In case you want to turn the reminders on again, simply enable the toggle.
Turn Off Breathe Reminders in Apple Watch
The breathe reminders are slightly less intrusive because by default they only pop up twice in a day. However, they can also get annoying at times, and unless you actually use them, I would recommend turning them off.
- Simply open the Watch app on your iPhone, scroll down, and tap on ‘Breathe‘. Here, tap on ‘Breath Reminders’.
- Tap on ‘None‘. Alternatively, you can just disable the notifications for the Breathe app completely.
Turn Off Breathe Reminders Temporarily
If you don’t mind the breathe reminders in watchOS but you just want to stop them for just one day, you can do that as well. Simply head into the ‘Breathe’ settings in the Watch app, and tap on ‘Mute for today’.
You will not get any more breathe reminders for the rest of the day without having to disable them permanently. Once the day is over, Apple Watch will automatically start sending breathe reminders again.
Customise Breathe Reminders in Apple Watch
If, on the other hand, you use the breathe app often on your watch, you might want to customise the reminders to better fit your usage. There are a couple of things you can change here according to your preference. Let’s go through them one by one.
First up is the reminder frequency. By default, this is set to ‘2 times a day’ but you can go up to 10 times a day if that’s the goal you want to hit.
In your Apple Watch, you must have seen that adjusting the time you want to perform the breathing exercises shows how many breaths the app will guide you to take. By default this number is set at 7 breaths per minute, which is usually great for most people. However, if you want to breathe faster or slower, you can adjust that with the ‘Breathe Rate’ setting on your iPhone.
Enable or Disable Stand, Breathe Reminders on Apple Watch
Well that sums up this article, and I hope you found it helpful in controlling the way your Apple Watch tries to coach you towards a healthier, calmer lifestyle. The breathe and stand reminders in Apple Watch are very useful for someone like me who is usually sitting for hours on end due to the nature of my job, but sometimes they do get a tad irritating, so it’s great they can be turned off as well.
