Lately I have seen a lot of Apple Watch problems/errors/issues on forums and support pages, and I have been trying to find solutions and write about them to help you guys. Recently, we talked about how to fix Apple Watch battery life, and today I want to talk about Apple Watch’s wrist detection feature. I have seen many reports on the internet that Apple Watch doesn’t wake up when wrist is raised. This can obviously be very annoying. Fortunately, there is an easy fix.
Fix Apple Watch Doesn’t Wake Up When Wrist is Raised
1. Check if Wake Screen Feature is On
The first thing to check in order to fix this Apple Watch issue is whether the feature is even turned on. Just follow the steps below.
- Go to Settings -> General on your Apple Watch.
- Tap on ‘Wake Screen’. Ensure that the toggle next to ‘Wake Screen on Wrist Raise‘ is on.
If you want to use your iPhone instead, here is how to check if the feature is turned on.
- Go to General -> Wake Screen in the Watch app.
- Ensure that the toggle next to ‘Wake Screen on Wrist Raise’ is on.
2. Check Theatre Mode
Apple Watch comes with a feature called ‘Theater Mode’ which is meant to ensure that the watch doesn’t wake up when you move your arm around in a movie theatre. If your Apple Watch doesn’t turn on when wrist is raised, you should check if you turned on Theatre Mode.
- Open the control centre on your watch, and check if the following icon is enabled. If it is, turn it off.
By the way, you should also take a look at our article on Apple Watch icons to learn all about watchOS 6’s icons and symbols.
If nothing works, your last resort is to unpair the Apple Watch and then set it up again. This usually fixes all sorts of software issues with the Apple Watch, so it’s worth a try if the other options aren’t working for you.
