Not Getting Notifications on Apple Watch? Here’s the Fix!

I love using my Apple Watch, and while I use it a lot for keeping a track of my heart health, making payments with Apple Pay and more, I mostly use it for getting my notifications on time. The Apple Watch does a mighty good job of pushing notifications from my iPhone to my wrist so I don’t need to constantly look at my phone. Anyway, recently while browsing the web I saw a lot of people saying that their Apple Watch notifications stopped working. That’s definitely annoying, and if it has happened to you, don’t worry, there’s an easy solution. Here’s what you need to do.

Notifications Not Working on Apple Watch: Solutions

1. Check if Your Watch is Locked

If you have set your Apple Watch to lock with a passcode automatically, you should know that the watch doesn’t show or even vibrate for new notifications while it’s locked. Sometimes, even when you’re wearing the watch, it might get confused about whether you’re wearing it or not and get locked.

My point is, the first thing you should check if your Apple Watch is not getting notifications is whether it’s locked. A locked watch displays a blue padlock icon on the top as shown in the screenshot here. By the way, you should check out our detailed guide to Apple Watch icons to learn all about what every icon in watchOS 6 means.

If your watch is locked, just enter your passcode to unlock it. You will now start getting notifications on your watch again.

2. Check ‘Do Not Disturb’

Next, you should check if you have enabled the do not disturb mode on your Apple Watch.

  • In the watchOS 6 control centre, check if the DND icon (the moon icon) is coloured. If it is, tap on it to disable DND mode.

Note: Turning on DND mode on your iPhone automatically turns it on on your Apple Watch as well, and vice versa.

3. Check Notification Settings

Apple gives you a lot of control over which notifications make their way to your wrist. This is a good thing, but sometimes it can come in the way as well. In some cases, I have seen people report that their Apple Watch was not getting notifications because they accidentally changed their notification settings. Here is how to check if everything is fine with the notification settings on your Apple Watch.

  • Launch the Watch app on your iPhone and tap on ‘Notifications‘. Scroll down and check if notifications are enabled or not.

Enable notifications for the apps you want to get notifications from on your Apple Watch, and that will solve your problem.

4. Reset Apple Watch

If nothing works, this will definitely fix your problem. However this is an extreme measure and I would recommend that you try all the other methods I have mentioned above before doing this.

  • In the Watch app on your iPhone tap on your Watch’s name. Now tap on the ⓘ.

  • Tap on ‘Unpair Apple Watch‘ and confirm the action.

Once you have unpaired your Apple Watch. Set it up with your iPhone again to get it working perfectly once more.
